<p><strong>Answer:</strong> Combine both weight training AND cardio in the same session.</p>
<p>Ok, there is really a lot more to it then just combining weight training and cardio together. But it all comes down to your type III muscle fiber and what&#8217;s so amazing about it is, it behaves like a cross between Type I and Type II muscle fibers.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s stronger, more powerful, and more resistant to fatigue than the others types of Muscle fibers.</p>
<p>The amazing thing about this Type III muscle fiber is that it has the capacity to grow larger and leaner while simultaneously burning fat!</p>

<h3>What if you skipped the Cardio, would you get FAT?</h3>
<p>by Mike Geary, Certified Nutrition Specialist, Certified Personal Trainer</p>
<p>I have an intriguing discussion about cardio workouts, which will hopefully get you thinking differently, and trying new things.</p>
<p>You may know I&#8217;ve been called the anti-cardio guy before, but this week I&#8217;m back posing the question to you, Do you really need cardio training to get lean and in great shape? By the way, you&#8217;ll see in a minute that I&#8217;m not really &#8220;anti-cardio&#8221;, just &#8220;anti traditional cardio&#8221;.</p>
<p>Most fitness buffs, weekend warriors, or anyone trying to get in shape or <a href="http://www.weightlossdigest.org/burnthefat">lose body fat</a>, consider it a fact that they need &#8220;cardio&#8221; exercise to accomplish these goals. They would never even question it.</p>
<p>However, I&#8217;m not only questioning it, I&#8217;m going to refute it! In fact, you may be surprised to know that some of the leanest and meanest people I know (men and women), NEVER do any type of normal or traditional cardio. </p>
<p>And I&#8217;ve spent over 15 years working out in various gyms, and hanging out with athletes of all sorts, so I&#8217;ve seen it all.</p>
<p>I will say that there can be a place for low-moderate level cardio for really overweight or deconditioned people, but even in those cases, there can be more effective methods.</p>
<h2>What exactly is a &#8220;cardio workout&#8221;?</h2>
<p>Most people would consider cardio to be pumping away mindlessly on a treadmill, riding a stationary bike, or coasting on an elliptical machine, while watching the TV screen at their state of the art gym. This is what I call &#8220;traditional cardio&#8221;. Hmmm, no wonder the majority of people get bored with their workouts and give up after a couple months without seeing results.</p>
<p>But if you look closer, &#8220;cardio&#8221; exercise can be considered any type of exercise or activity that strengthens the cardiovascular system. </p>
<p>I&#8217;m not going to get into anything technical like increasing your VO2 max or anything like that.</p>
<p>To keep it simple, if it gets your heart pumpin, and gets you huffin and puffin, it&#8217;s cardio.</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t care if you&#8217;re holding dumbbells or a barbell and everyone calls it a weight training exercise&#8230;it&#8217;s still conditioning your heart.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s take a look at a couple examples. </p>
<p>Take a barbell (or dumbbell, or kettlebell) clean &amp; press for example, which involves lifting a barbell from the floor up to shoulders, then push pressing overhead.</p>
<p>And listen up ladies, because even though this is usually seen as a manly exercise, it doesn&#8217;t matter if you&#8217;re not lifting 250 lbs; if 45 lbs is challenging to you, then you will still benefit just as much.</p>
<p>At first glance, most people think of the barbell C &amp; P only as a weight training exercise or strength exercise. However, I challenge you to do a hard set of around 10-15 reps on the C &amp; P. If you used a challenging enough weight, what you&#8217;ll find is that your heart rate is probably up to about 80-90% of your recommended max, and you are huffing and puffing like you just ran a 100-meter sprint (which by the way, sprinting kicks the crap out of jogging any day if you want the easiest way to lose the flab).</p>
<p>Try the same thing for a set of 20 reps of one-arm snatches or swings with each arm with a kettlebell or dumbbell, and tell me your legs aren&#8217;t burning, heart racing, and you&#8217;re gasping for breath. How about trying 5 minutes straight of bodyweight squats, lunges, and pushups with very little rest. </p>
<p>Again, notice your heart pounding, sweat pouring off of you, and chest heaving for breaths!</p>
<p>Try and tell me you&#8217;re not conditioning your heart with this style of training! Conventional thinking says that these are weight training or strength training exercises. </p>
<p>However, they are fulfilling your cardio workout needs as well (saving you time!).</p>
<p>Not only do you save time, but you strengthen and condition almost every muscle in your entire body with these full body exercises if you do them with enough intensity, something that can&#8217;t be said for that boring stationary bike ride or treadmill jaunt while reading or watching TV.</p>
<h2>Reading or watching TV while your doing your cardio workout is a joke!</h2>
<p>Seriously, if you can read or watch TV while doing any exercise, you&#8217;re not concentrating enough on what you&#8217;re doing, plus you&#8217;re probably not working out hard enough to see any real results.</p>
<p>I challenge you to give the &#8220;traditional cardio workout&#8221; a rest for a month or two, and start training the way I explain in my internationally-selling Book (link below), and see how you start getting leaner, more defined, and your six pack starting to show through what used to be stubborn stomach fat deposits.</p>

<h2>Will Focusing on Both Consistency AND Variability in Your Workouts produce the Best Results and prevent you from hitting a Training Plateau?</h2>
<p>While changing your training variables is an integral part of the success of your training program, your workouts shouldn&#8217;t be drastically different every single time. </p>
<p>Why?</p>
<p>Because if you are all over the place on each workout and never try to repeat and improve on specific exercises for specific set and rep schemes with specific rest intervals, then your body has no basis to improve on its current condition.</p>
<p>The best way to structure your workouts to get the best results is to be consistent and try to continually improve on a specific training method for a specific time period. </p>
<p>A time period of 4 to 8 weeks usually works best as your body will adapt to the specific training method and progress will slow after this amount of time.</p>
<p>At this point, it is time to change around some of your training variables and then stay consistent with your new training program for another 4 to 8 weeks. </p>
<h2>14 Ab Workout Training Tips:</h2>
<p><span id="more-1164"></span></p>
<ol>
<li>the numbers of sets and reps of exercises</li>
<li>the order of exercises (sequence)</li>
<li>exercise grouping (super-setting, circuit training, tri-sets, etc.)</li>
<li>exercise type (multi-joint or single joint, free-weight or machine based)</li>
<li>the number of exercises per workout</li>
<li>the amount of resistance</li>
<li>the time under tension during each exercise</li>
<li>the base of stability (standing, seated, on stability ball, one-legged, etc.)</li>
<li>the volume of work (sets x reps x distance moved)</li>
<li>rest periods between sets</li>
<li>repetition speed</li>
<li>range of motion</li>
<li>exercise angle (inclined, flat, declined, bent over, upright, etc)</li>
<li>training duration per workout, training frequency per week, etc.</li>
</ol>
<p>For example, let&#8217;s say you are training with a program where you are doing 10 sets of 3 reps for 6 different exercises grouped together in pairs (done as supersets) with 30 seconds rest between each superset and no rest between the 2 exercises within the superset. </p>
<p>If you are smart, I&#8217;m sure you are tracking your progress with a notepad (weights used, sets, and reps) to see how you are progressing over time. </p>
<p>Let&#8217;s say that after about 6 weeks, you find that you are no longer improving with that program. Well, now it is time to change up your variables, and start a new program.</p>
<p>This time you choose a classic 5 sets of 5 reps routine, but you group your exercises in tri-sets (three exercises performed back to back to back, and then repeated for the number of sets). </p>
<p>This time you decide to perform the exercises in the tri-set with no rest between them, and then recover for 2 minutes in between each tri-set to fully recoup your strength levels. </p>
<p>There you have it, a couple examples of how to incorporate both consistency and variability into your training programs to maximize your results. </p>

<p>However, what most people don&#8217;t realize is that excess abdominal fat in particular, is not only ugly, but is also a dangerous risk factor to your health. Scientific research has clearly demonstrated that although it is unhealthy in general to have excess body fat throughout your body, it is also particularly dangerous to have excess abdominal fat.</p>
<p>There are two types of fat that you have in your abdominal area. The first type that covers up your abs from being visible is called subcutaneous fat and lies directly beneath the skin and on top of the abdominal muscles.</p>
<p>The second type of fat that you have in your abdominal area is called visceral fat, and that lies deeper in the abdomen beneath your muscle and surrounding your organs. These phytoestrogens mimic the effects of estrogen in the body and have been shown to decrease the testosterone levels of rats, monkeys and other animals, including humans.</p>
<p>It has been known for quite some time that soy lowers testosterone to the point that there is an old Japanese wives’ tale that says women punish straying husbands by feeding them a lot of tofu.  Now what do you think that means?</p>
<p>If building muscle is your goal, definitely stay away from any protein powder or protein bar that contains soy or soy protein isolate.  Make sure to read labels carefully as it is in more products than you think.</p>
<p><strong>Q:</strong>  When choosing a protein powder, should I really be concerned about artificial sweeteners harming my body?</p>
<p><strong>A:</strong> Artificial sweeteners have been found to be one of the most toxic substances we can put inside our bodies. </p>
<p>Besides the fact that it causes brain and metabolism dysfunction, they clog up your liver to a point where it can not fully function.  </p>
<p>Why is your liver so important?  Your liver is not only responsible for eliminating toxins from your body but it is also responsible for metabolizing fat.  If it is so busy processing through artificial sweeteners (a harmful toxin), it will not spend a sufficient amount of time processing through the unwanted fat you are trying to lose.  </p>
<p>Believe it or not, I have had clients give up Diet Coke and lose up to 10 lbs in 2 weeks!</p>
<p><strong>Q:</strong> Why are artificial sweeteners so bad if they supposedly have &#8220;zero calories&#8221;?</p>
<p><strong>A:</strong> Zero sugar foods are actually much worse than sugar containing foods.</p>
<p>Artificial sweeteners (like aspartame, sucralose, and saccharin) are poison to our bodies.</p>
<p>Whenever the body reads an ingested food as a potential danger, your liver comes to the rescue to help ward off any danger these foreign substances may cause.</p>
<p>People who eat and drink “diet” foods and “diet drinks all day, are overwhelming and taxing their livers.  Your liver is crucial in the weight loss/fat burning process.  So if your liver is taxed and not working at optimum, it becomes near impossible to lose any weight.</p>
<p>This is why I give my readers many alternatives to sugar free foods and sugar containing foods.  There are natural alternatives that are ideal replacements for any of these diet foods, without the potential harm to the liver.</p>
<p><strong>Q:</strong> In your program, you talk about good dairy and bad dairy.  Any tip you can provide before I buy any more dairy? </p>
<p><strong>A:</strong> Dairy is one of the leading reasons most people can not lose weight or, worse yet, are constantly gaining weight.</p>
<p>The shocking truth about dairy is that it is only healthy in its raw form.  All of the pasteurized dairy in the supermarkets today are really keeping people fat and making them fatter.  </p>
<p>Besides the countless amount of research that has been done showing us how healthy raw dairy is, the proof is really in the thousands of people and children that are overweight or obese and drinking several glasses of pasteurized milk each day.</p>
<p><strong>Q:</strong> Eating organic food is really expensive.  Is it worth the extra cost or completely over rated?  Will it really make a difference in building muscle faster and <a href="http://www.weightlossdigest.org/burnthefat">losing fat</a> quicker?</p>
<p><strong>A:</strong> The answer to this question takes us back to the function of the liver.  The pesticides, antibiotics and hormones that are being added to most foods are clogging up our livers.  Again, a clogged up liver can not burn fat.  And worse yet, will continue to store fat.  Yes, organic food may be a bit more expensive.</p>
<p>But most of my clients notice their grocery bill is the same once they eliminate the expensive cereals and “so called” expensive diet foods they were eating before.</p>
<p><strong>Q:</strong> Do you think fat burning pills are helpful in the weight loss process?</p>
<p><strong>A:</strong> I think people really don’t realize the severe damage they are causing their bodies with fat burning pills.  Whenever you attempt to artificially spark your metabolism with harmful pills, you are essentially creating a “lazy” metabolism.</p>
<p>When you go off these pills, your metabolism is too lazy to do anything.</p>
<p>Almost every person I know who has taken fat burning pills complains of gaining even more weight when they attempt to get off of them.  Of course this happens.</p>
<p>Their metabolism is now &#8220;on vacation&#8221; and not sure if it will ever come back as strong as it was before.</p>
<p>The best way to spark your metabolism is to eat good amounts of healthy protein, fat and carbohydrates all day long.</p>
<p>This is what your metabolism was designed to do: metabolize healthy food into energy and muscle for the body to utilize.</p>
<p><strong>Q:</strong> Are there really certain foods that are toxic to our bodies?  How do we know which foods to look for?</p>
<p><strong>A:</strong> The amount of toxic chemicals that are now added to our foods is actually quite frightening.  The same pesticides that are designed to kill bugs are all over conventional produce and these pesticides go into our bloodstream when we eat these sprayed fruits and vegetables.  The 2 worst forms of chemicals are hydrogenated oil and high fructose corn syrup.  Hydrogenated oil is a toxic change in oil to make it more shelf stable, hence keeping foods like packaged cookies, cakes and most processed foods in the stores longer to make maximum profit by these companies.  My program teaches people exactly which chemicals they must stay away from if they want to finally lose their excess weight (and often times, these chemicals are exactly what’s keeping them from achieving their desired goals).</p>

<p><strong>Q:</strong> How important is it to eat based on your metabolism and eat the right foods for your metabolism?  Do you touch on this in your program? </p>
<p><strong>A:</strong> Eating the right foods for your metabolism is so important, that it is the difference between losing weight and not losing weight.</p>
<p>We are all individual and so are our metabolisms.  </p>
<p>In order to pinpoint exactly which meal plan will work best, I have included a Metabolic Typing Test so my readers can determine exactly how they metabolize food and which foods are “fat burning” foods and which foods are “fat storing” foods.  The results of this test have been a true “AHA” moment for thousands of people, finally, maybe for the first time, finding why they have not been able to shed their unwanted fat before.</p>
<p>What I teach in The Diet Solution Program  is exactly what your body needs to maintain a lean and healthy body for a lifetime.</p>
<p><strong>Q:</strong> Do you think people can lose weight on a fat free diet?</p>
<p><strong>A:</strong> Definitely not. The no-fat craze clearly made most Americans (and many other countries) gain more weight than ever before.  Why?  Because the right kind of fat is essential to the body and without it, your body can not metabolize the fat you don’t want.  So unless you feed your body the fats that it needs, it literally holds on to all the fat you don’t need (and don’t want!).  Eating a low fat or no fat meal plan is a huge mistake.  Not only will you not lose weight but you may suffer from many conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and heart disease.<br />
	This is usually one of the most eye-opening chapters for most of my readers.  They can’t believe they need to eat fat to lose fat and are amazed when they see the results first hand.  Now, of course, eating unhealthy fats (like the ones found in French fries and burgers) is not the right approach.  You must focus on the healthy fats (again, as Mother Nature intended).  </p>
<p><strong>Q:</strong> After reading The Diet Solution I discovered that I am a serious &#8216;Protein Type&#8217; &#8211; what the main thing I should do to increase my energy?</p>
<p><strong>A:</strong> The main thing is not to be afraid of eating healthy fat and healthy proteins.  Everyone thinks chicken breasts and egg whites is the only way to lose weight but, especially for a protein type, that is not the case.  Actually a protein type may gain weight by only eating low fat proteins and a low fat meal plan.  Someone like you needs whole eggs, dark meat poultry, beef, and healthy fats.  </p>
<p><strong>Q:</strong> What exactly is Metabolic Typing and why is it so important for each of us to know our metabolic type?</p>
<p><strong>A:</strong> Metabolic typing is actually a very old science-based way to determine which foods respond best to your body.  The best way to describe this method is: the foods that an Eskimo would eat are clearly different than the foods a native Hawaiian would eat.  Why?  Because their natural ancestors and their environment dictate how their bodies will process and digest food.  So an Eskimo will need a meal plan higher in healthy fats to keep warm and a Hawaiian will need a meal plan higher in veggies and fruits to stay cool.  Now, it is often not this simple.  Each and every person’s metabolism responds very differently to all food and can vary greatly from person to person.  For example, I feel my best and stay at my ideal weight when I eat higher fat proteins along with lots of vegetables where as many of my clients do better with higher amounts of natural carbohydrates and lower fat proteins.  My book provides a detailed, easy to answer test to determine your own personal metabolic type and then tells you exactly which foods are the best fit for you. </p>
<p><strong>Q:</strong> Can people lose weight by just starving themselves?</p>
<p><strong>A:</strong>  Back in the caveman days, there were periods of feast and famine.  Our bodies have a natural ability to make sure we do not die of starvation.  This mechanism in our bodies holds on to every bit of fat and every calorie possible to keep us from dying.  This is obviously no longer a risk in most countries, but this mechanism is still present in our bodies.  So when people starve themselves all day, the body sees this as a potential risk, and holds on to every calorie and fat gram it possibly can.  This is why people become extremely frustrated when they “don’t eat all day” and still don’t lose weight.<br />
	I know it seems counterproductive, but the only way to truly lose weight and keep it off is to start eating.  But not processed unnatural foods.  Your body will respond best to natural, wholesome foods and LOTS of them.</p>
<p><strong>Q:</strong> How do companies get away with selling products with harmful chemicals in them?</p>

So if they were to actually teach people the real truth behind how to lose weight and take control of their health, most of the food products, supplements and medications on the market today would be completely unnecessary.  Let’s be honest.  No one is going to get rich selling apples, you know?</p>
<p>I think many of these companies are also feeding off people’s emotions.  The more addicted they get people to their products and diet foods, the more money they will continue to make.  But if you were to get someone to their ideal weight with natural foods like veggies, fruits and natural meats, there would be no food addictions to diet foods and chemicals, just good healthy eating.</p>

<p>What is your definition of a <strong>&#8220;fat burning food&#8221;</strong> ?</p>
<h2>Fat Burning Food Definition</h2>
<p><img src="http://www.weightlossdigest.org/images/fat burning food.gif" alt="fat burning food" height="180" width="150" /><br />
When you say &#8220;fat burning food&#8221; or &#8220;foods that burn fat,&#8221; many people instantly think of exotic herbs, hot spices or foods like cayenne, chili pepper, mustard, cider vinegar, guarana, green tea, etc., which allegedly increase your metabolic rate.</p>
<p>It sounds like a diet gimmick, so you are justified in being skeptical, but believe it or not, some of these purported fat burning foods actually have some science behind the claims.</p>
<p><br />
For example, there is a slight thermogenic effect from capsaicin in hot peppers.<br />
<span id="more-1000"></span><br />
A Well-controlled research has also proven that a compound in green tea called epigallo-catechin gallate (EGCG) gives a small but significant increase in 24 hour metabolic rate. </p>
<p>Did you know that it would take 3-4 strong cups of green tea to get the necessary amount, 270-300 mg of EGCG, or you can also get it from some green tea extract supplements.</p>
<blockquote><p>(Little known tip: Look for Japanese Sencha &#8211; it is reputed to have the highest concentration of EGCG).</p></blockquote>
<p><strong>However, there is a catch. </strong></p>
<h2>The Fat Burning Thermogenic Effects of Food</h2>
<p>The fat burning (thermogenic) effect of these foods is real, but very small. </p>
<p>A study published in the European Journal of clinical Nutrition found that a dose of hot pepper<em> (in an amount that could be tolerated)</em>, only increased metabolism by 21 calories. </p>
<p>Green tea extract fared a little better, but not much. </p>
<p>Research from Switzerland found an average 24 hour increase in metabolism of only 79 calories.</p>
<p>That is not much. </p>
<p>In fact, it is controversial whether this short term (24 hour) increase in metabolism will have any impact on actual fat loss over time.</p>
<p>But if you really like Green tea, it is extremely healthy, and I do recommend it as a beverage.<br />
<br />
And, if you like hot peppers and hot spicy foods (I do), by all means enjoy them &#8211; they can be quite nutritious &#8211; and they may give a tiny boost to your metabolism. </p>
<blockquote><p>Just do not expect any fat loss miracles.</p></blockquote>
<p>What WILL help you burn fat is a diet consisting of nutrient-dense, natural foods and putting together your meals to maximize satiety, while also choosing some of the foods that have a lower caloric density and a higher thermic effect of digestion.</p>
<p>Let me explain,</p>
<h2>Dietary Thermogenesis and the Fat Burning (Thermic Effect) Of Food</h2>
<p>In reality, ALL foods are &#8220;thermogenic&#8221; because the body must use energy to digest them. </p>
<p>This is known as the <strong>&#8220;thermic effect of food&#8221;</strong> (TEF) or <strong>&#8220;specific dynamic action of food.&#8221;</strong></p>
<p>However, not all foods have the same thermic effect. </p>
<p>Did you know that dietary fat has the lowest thermic effect.</p>
<p>The most thermogenic food (my &#8220;favorite&#8221;) is lean protein from solid foods, especially the following:</p>
<ul>
<li>chicken breast</li>
<li>turkey breast</li>
<li>game meats</li>
<li>bison, buffalo</li>
<li>very lean red meat such as top round and lean sirloin<strong> (grass fed is especially nutritious)</strong></li>
<li>almost all types of fish</li>
<li>shellfish and other seafood</li>
<li>egg whites <strong>(whole eggs in moderation)</strong></li>
</ul>
<p>Some Research has proven that the thermic effect of protein is the highest of all the macronutrients, requiring about 30% of the calories it contains, just for digestion and processing.</p>
<blockquote><p>Now That&#8217;s Fat Burning Food!</p></blockquote>
<p>An added bonus is that lean protein foods suppress your appetite!</p>
<p>This is one of the reasons that a bodybuilder&#8217;s diet calls for a lean protein food at every meal and it is no coincidence that bodybuilders are the leanest muscular athletes on earth.</p>
<p>My entire <a href="http://www.weightlossdigest.org/tired-of-being-fat-let-the-fitness-models-show-you-there-secrets-today-982.php/?id=LINK1000">fat loss program</a> is based on these bodybuilding diet methods <em>(although my diet is not just for bodybuilders)</em>.</p>
<p>When you combine thermogenic lean protein foods with the right amounts and types of essential fats, add in plenty of green vegetables and just the right amount of natural starchy carbs and 100% whole grains, your body will literally turn into a turbo-charged <strong>fat burning machine</strong> &#8211; without drugs, supplements or weird diet gimmicks.</p>
<h2>A Simple 3-Step Formula for a Real Fat Burning Meal.</h2>
<ol>
<li>Select a green vegetable or fibrous vegetable such as asparagus, green beans, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, salad vegetables, etc., and then</li>
<li>Combine that with one of the lean proteins (previously mentioned above).</li>
<li>The lean protein and fibrous carb forms the foundation of your fat burning meal.
<p>From there, add natural starchy carbs or grains such as brown rice, oats, or sweet potatoes &#8211; in the amount your calorie needs dictate and to the degree your body can tolerate them (some people are carb-sensitive).</p>
<p>Fruit is also ok, but focus even more on the green and fibrous vegetables.</li>
</ol>

<p>If you are thinking about using fat burner supplements or if you are simply looking for information about fat burners, then what you are about to read on this page may might surprise you.</p>
<blockquote><p>DO NOT spend any of your money on &#8220;fat burners&#8221; until you read this! </p></blockquote>
<p>The Truth about fat burner pills and the advertisements that sell them is going to shock you, stun you and may even outrage you, especially if you have been spending large sums of money on these products.</p>
<p>Please do not take my word for it either.</p>
<p>Read this short article.</p>
<p>Reflect on what you have read and then YOU make the call.</p>
<h2>EPHEDRA AND EPHEDRINE &#8211; THERMOGENIC &#8220;FAT BURNERS&#8221;</h2>
<p>The most popular of the &#8220;fat burner&#8221; supplements ever on the market were no doubt ephedra or ephedrine-based products. These products began to hit the shelves back in 1993.</p>
<h2>The Fat Burner Ephedrine</h2>
<p>Ephedrine was immensely popular because there was actually some good scientific evidence showing that it had measurable fat burning effects.</p>
<p>You could also<strong> “feel”</strong> it, because you got an <strong>“energy buzz.”</strong></p>
<p>Ephedrine is a drug derived from a plant (a Chinese herb) called ephedra (also known as ma huang).<br />
It is similar in chemical structure to amphetamines and works as a <strong>&#8220;beta-adrenergic agonist&#8221;</strong> &#8211; which means, that it is a thermogenic (a metabolism stimulating) agent that helps with the release of stored body fat.<br />

So if it worked, why did it get banned by the FDA and taken off the market in April of 2004?</p>
<p>Well, there were clearly some political and financial agendas involved, But the reason given to the public was &#8220;concern about adverse affects and safety&#8221;.</p>
<p>To this day, the decision to remove ephedrine from the market is still controversial because the research was mixed on whether the risks were severe enough to warrant the ban.</p>
<blockquote><p>PROBABLY SAFE WHEN TAKEN AS DIRECTED, BUT&#8230;</p></blockquote>
<p>Although the FDA reportedly had 80 ephedrine related deaths and 1400 adverse effect complaints on file, including strokes, coronaries and seizures, the fact is, when compared to deaths caused by prescription drugs and other over the counter drugs like aspirin, ephedra actually appeared fairly safe when used as directed by healthy individuals and was not abused.</p>
<h2>Ephedrine Fat Burning Addiction</h2>
<p>However, one huge downside of ephedrine that was not often mentioned by the pro-ephedrine camp is that stimulant-based fat burners can be highly addictive. This Addiction leads to improper use or abuse of Ephedrine.</p>
<p>In the early and mid 1990&#8217;s, I used ephedra products myself because they were legal, over the counter and at the time, they were not banned from the natural bodybuilding competitions that I participated in.</p>
<h2>Ephedrines Fat Burning Benefits</h2>
<p>Research be damned, I never believed that these pills actually helped me all that much with fat loss.</p>
<p>But, what I did notice was the &#8220;rocket-engine&#8221; stimulant boost &#8211; the buzz, the pounding heart rate, the increased physical energy, and the amplified mental focus and workout &#8220;intensity.&#8221;</p>
<p>At the height of the craze, 12 to 17 million people were using ephedra and no doubt, many of them were hooked on what was essentially a mild form of legal speed.</p>
<p>These products were being abused en masse as <strong>“pick me ups.”</strong> Students were popping these pills to stay awake and study all night. Partiers were doing the same. So were truck drivers.</p>
<h2>Downside of the Fat Burner Ephedrine</h2>
<p><strong>WHAT GOES UP MUST COME DOWN</strong><br />
Like any addictive habit, it&#8217;s difficult to stop. When you first go cold turkey, you crash emotionally and physically and your workouts suffer as your crutch has been taken away. I suppose it&#8217;s a lot like trying to kick the booze or cigarette habit. You go through withdrawal.</p>
<p>Your body is too smart for short term quick fixes to ever work because your body will always fight back to maintain a natural balance or <strong>“homeostasis.”</strong></p>
<p>For every artificial peak or high you create, there will be an equal or greater valley or low point.<br />

If you over-stimulate, your body can respond by slowing down your natural metabolic rate to compensate. As a result, when you stop using the stimulant, your metabolism is slower than ever and you gain back any weight you lost and more.</p>
<p>This often prompts you to go back on the stimulants and the vicious cycle of stimulant addiction continues. </p>
<p>Some experts say that long term use can even lead to adrenal burnout.</p>
<h2>The Bottom Line on the Fat Burner Ephedrine</h2>
<p>Even if there are not any serious coronary or health risks from proper use, there is the risk of irresponsible use and the risk of addiction and dependency on &#8220;fake energy.&#8221; just remember, what goes up, must come down. If you borrow energy you will eventually have to pay it back.</p>
<h2>Ephedra Free Fat Burners</h2>
<p>When the FDA finally pulled the plug on ephedra, supplement companies scrambled like crazed maniacs to come out with <strong>&#8220;ephedra free&#8221;</strong> formulas for their &#8220;fat burners&#8221; as they anticipated the imminent doom of their multi-million dollar cash cows.</p>
<p>The new ads proclaimed,</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>&#8220;More powerful than ephedrine-based fat burners!&#8221;</strong></li>
<li><strong>&#8220;The next generation of thermogenic technology!&#8221;</strong></li>
</ul>
<p>The great irony is that most of the fat burners currently on the Market today are completely worthless. </p>
<p>At best they provide a watered down, unproven substitute for ephedrine and a slight buzz (most are loaded with caffeine).</p>
<p>Or, they may provide some mild appetite suppression. But NONE of these so called <strong>“next generation fat burners&#8221;</strong> are the <strong>“miracles”</strong> that the advertisements say they are.<br />
<br />
Bodybuilding industry columnist <strong>&#8220;Will Brink&#8221;</strong> put it this way,</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;The explosion of ephedrine free weight loss products was more a function of market pressure vs being based on any science. Claims by some companies that their new ephedrine-free &#8220;fat burners&#8221; were equivalent to or even superior to EC based products was wishful thinking and marketing-driven BS.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>But it did not matter. </p>
<p>Consumers had been hoodwinked with the classic bait and switch. The ephedrine was gone from the formulas, but the brand names remained the same.</p>
<blockquote><p>STAGGERING BILLION DOLLAR FORTUNES IN FAT BURNERS AND DIET PILLS</p></blockquote>
<p>In the last year before Ephedra was banned, sales had skyrocketed to $1.25 BILLION DOLLARS, according to the Nutrition Business Journal.</p>
<p>The money still continues to pour in at a staggering rate today. </p>
<p>To say that money is the main motivation behind the push for diet pills and a fat burners would be the understatement of the century.</p>
<p>Most people who aggressively recommend <strong>&#8220;fat burning&#8221;</strong> pills of any kind are profiting from their sale and it is hard to get unbiased information when so much money is at stake.</p>
<p><strong>THE HARD TRUTH:<br />
A LEAN BODY DOES NOT COME IN A PILL</strong></p>
<h2>Common Myths About Fat Burners</h2>
<p>It is a common misconception that you can not reach your fat loss goals unless you take some kind of <strong>&#8220;fat burner&#8221;</strong> supplement.</p>
<p>It is also a common misconception that you can pop a pill and get dramatic results like you see on TV and in the magazine ads.</p>
<p>The results you see in the ads for fat burners are persuasive, but before and after testimonials are NOT proof that diet pills were responsible for those results.</p>
<p>Not all before and afters are bogus, of course. But many of the legitimate photos are <strong>&#8220;not typical&#8221;</strong> and represent the best possible case scenarios, after extremely intense training and strict nutritional regimens.</p>
<p>As for many<strong> “miraculous transformations,”</strong> the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) And state attorney general’s offices have been exposing them for what they really are, set-ups and outright fakes!</p>
<p>In January of 2007, four diet pill companies you have definitely heard of were sued by the FTC and ordered to pay $25 million in fines.</p>
<p><strong><u>The reasons: </u></strong><strong>False Advertising and No Evidence To Back Up Their Claims.</strong></p>
<h2>Fat Burner False Advertising</h2>
<p>San Diego Attorney Todd Macaluso took sworn depositions from several Diet pill before and after models. </p>
<p>According to a story in the San Diego Tribune by Penni Crabtree, Los Angeles bodybuilder Mike Piacentino Swore under oath that he was paid to stop working out and to eat ice cream and donuts to fatten him up three weeks in advance of his “before” photo shoot. </p>
<p>Then he used his bodybuilding expertise to get back in his usual top shape.</p>
<p>According to an ABC 20/20 expose’, fitness model Marla Duncan said In advertisements that she lost 35 lbs with the help of a popular fat burner pill. </p>
<p>However, Jay Nixon, the Missouri Attorney General, found out that Duncan had recently been pregnant and given birth. </p>
<p>The<strong> “before” </strong>photo was taken shortly afterwards. </p>
<p>The fat burner pill company settled the case out of court for $100,000 while denying any wrongdoing.</p>
<p>Will you ever look at before and after photos the same again? </p>
<p>Do you really want to keep forking over your money to these companies?</p>
<h2>My Fat Loss Pill Final Conclusion</h2>
<p>Diet pills and fat burners are nothing but quick fixes. Every one of them.</p>
<p>Even if they help in the short term, they do not help in the long term because you are only treating symptoms. </p>
<p>Body fat is a symptom of a complex problem with multiple causes including unhealthy lifestyle, poor nutrition, lack of activity and even mental factors like subconscious self-sabotage and emotional eating.</p>
<h2>My Fat Loss Solution</h2>
<p>The true solution to any problem, including body fat, is to find the causes and treat them.</p>
<p>After using them for a few years in the 1990&#8217;s, and after a lot of research, self-experimentation and personal reflection, I made the decision to dump <strong>&#8220;fat burning&#8221;</strong> and <strong>&#8220;pre-workout stimulant&#8221;</strong> pills down the toilet forever. </p>
<p>I then decided that I would no longer recommend these products to my readers and clients.</p>
<p>Since then, I have continued my training with no fat burners whatsoever.<br />

There has been NO difference in my results and I have gone on to win numerous bodybuilding titles.</p>

<strong>NO DRUGS, NO PILLS and NO FAT BURNERS!</strong></p>
<p>I find the obsession so many people have with taking a pill to lose weight both perplexing and troubling at the same time, especially when you consider that fat loss can be achieved naturally, so simply and predictably with nutrition and exercise methods such as what I teach in my <a href="http://www.weightlossdigest.org/tired-of-being-fat-let-the-fitness-models-show-you-there-secrets-today-982.php/?id=LINK987">Fat Loss</a>Program.</p>
<p>Spending big money, sometimes $40 to $50 a bottle or even more on pills is even more baffling to me when you consider that even if you get some small fat burning effect from the supplements, it is nothing you could not get from another week or two of dieting and exercising!</p>
